Guide to Planing a Couples Engagement Shoot
May 30th, 2022
If you get the opportunity to do a couples engagement shoot, do it! Let's be honest, getting photos professionally taken of you and your significant other can be a little uncomf, however it is one of the best ways to prepare yourself for your big day!!
It is also the best way to get to know your photographer better, and more importantly get to know how they work (this is sooooo important, I highly highly highly recommend all my couples one one!).
Here are a few tips in order to planning an engaggement shoot!
1. Location
Choose a location you LOVE or you LOVE the look of! Do a bit of researching before, to see what you like and what location you think you'd like to go with. Ask your photographer to see if they know any cool spots! A few things to consider:
-how busy the area is?
-is there any cover or is it in full sun (more on this later)?
-is there at least two or three distinct areas (to ensure you get a variety of shots).
2. What to wear
This is super important! My main point on this is wear something that is complementary to each other (so kinda matching but not really)!
Also consider where you are having your photos taken! I always suggest neutral colours (light blues, light oranges, beige, whites) as these will work most of the time. See a few examples below:
3. Time
Ugh this is soooo important. Choosing the right time of day can make so much of a difference. Go with either in the early morning or late afternoon as the sun is setting!
PS: also consider the weather. If it is an overcast day (which believe it or not is almost ideal conditions; beautiful soft light), maybe consider going a little earlier!
4.Fun!
This is the most important part. When was the last time you spent time with your significant other just being as affectionate as you possible can be (long stares into each other eyes, all that other good stuff)? Not as often as we should, right!
The more fun you have, the better your photos will be!
I hope this has given you a few ideas or at least a starting point for planning your engagement shoot! Of course, I go through all these things when I plan an engagement, and I love guiding couples through it! It's such a great way to prepare for their wedding day!
